The longest Spring Break ever

We’ve probably said, “Man if I had more time I’d be able to work on this…that…” but what we’ve got here is some major monkey’s paw bullshit. I’ve been on lockdown for the past 3 weeks and with San Diego extending the lockdown to the end of April, things are a little tense.

I’m not gonna go into too much detail about COVID-19, Lord knows there’s enough coverage about that all over the internet. At its simplest, it’s a coronavirus that’s got one helluva incubation period, really fucks with the respiratory system, and is extremely contagious. Hence, the need for the lockdown.

When this was all starting, I really started noticing a few things. Traffic became non-existent. The smog started clearing out almost immediately. People started hoarding toilet paper. An overwhelming sense of dread started enveloping the city.

The Friday I was ordered to go home was the 20th of March. We eventually did get orders to take a few things from work so we could begin the preparations to work from home. I’m now set up with my work laptop, a VPN tunnel, and PC’s for me to configure and send out to our remote technicians. FedEx has been very accommodating with my pickups.

Since then, I’ve been clocking in like normal, working on PC’s and documents throughout the day, and then when I clock out, I usually just log into my PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and just talk to my friends via Discord, Facebook, and Twitter. Still, while this lockdown has me feeling that this is a long-lost summer where I couldn’t see my friends freely, I still can’t shake how fucked up this all is. We could’ve had the means to nip this in the bud but thanks to our “leadership”, they just dropped the ball, tripped on it, and shit all over the scrimmage line.

Small businesses are hurting from this lack of foot traffic. My brother and I have been trying to support small businesses as best we can. Today I picked up a bunch of baked meat buns from our favorite Chinese Bakery in National City. They’ll be free to take more orders tomorrow!

Other than that, I’m one of many people enduring this lockdown as best we can. To that end, I’ve created a google doc for people to just down random thoughts, fears, frustrations, whatever’s on their mind. Keeping it all bottled up ain’t good for anyone.

So SSB isn’t going anywhere. We really can’t go anywhere, to be honest, and that’s the best way to beat this bug. By being the best hikkikomori we cant be and STAYING THE FUCK AT HOME.
