Mission Statement Part Deux

In a previous entry, I said that SSB’s Mission Statement was to “Geek Loud and Geek Proud” without any real explanation as to what that was. With some talk from one of my informal advisors, I decided that I needed to clarify that a bit more. SSB’s going to “Geek Loud and Geek Proud” through celebrating otaku culture in all of its forms, in Richie’s words, “Online AND IRL!”

Right now Richie is giving our website a much-needed tune-up. We’re running a new, cleaner, more-streamlined theme pack that’s expressly designed for webcomic crews such as ourselves. The comics are now found under the “All Comics” section. All of our blog entries are now listed under “Strawberry Scented Burnout-Blog Entries”. The Staff page is still located at the top for easy looking.

While the comics are being reorganized, let me bring you guys up to speed with what’s been going on with myself and the rest of SSB:

  • I’ve been laid-off after 9 years at ecoATM. I was working in a department that the new CEO felt wasn’t a fit for the direction they were heading, so myself and a quite a few other people were dropped on the 9th of September. However, I’m getting a nice severance and between my funemployment and 401K, I’m not exactly hurting for cash at the moment. I’m taking this time to refocus my energies and work on SSB things. I’m also playing a ton of Minecraft.
  • Volume 3 dropped about a year ago, and I’ve sold out of the inaugural run. I need to order more copies.
  • Volume 4 is still being worked on.
  • Twitchcon and Ecchi Expo are coming up!
  • SSB is presenting a more discerning anime con next year.

Also, I haven’t posted any art in a while, so lemme get on that while Richie adds the comics. These pieces were added within the last two years, with the first one being from a couple months ago.

I recently got into Ace Combat 7, much at the behest of Lester. Our newest kouhai Jay is featured here.
I’ve really gotta get back into The Division 2. Great lore, great setting, but the gameplay doesn’t have the feel or polish that Destiny 2 has.
I came up with this piece to celebrate my Destiny 2 Fireteam’s making it through the pandemic, and as a Christmas gift to the both of them and Bungie.
I’m still working on my Metal Gear story playthrough. From Left: Jay, Myself, and Richie
My take on the SSB Zine Team as Yakuza.
When the stream team came together, I sorta envisioned the first members just being themselves on a vaporwave beach. I was wearing a loadout from The Division 2, Brian and Andrew were wearing Monster Hunter World gear, and then-member Rowena was her Mi’qote self. Mario was naturally spinning the tunes.
We had some new homies join up with the “SSB and Friends” stream team schedule. Don, Phil, Ed, and Mark. Special shoutouts for my Pimpbot9000 Jason being on the moon.
Bad lighting. I had this made to celebrate the formation of the “1st Expeditionary Force” after Ecchi Expo’s first year. Wild times.

With our group’s mission to celebrate otaku culture by “geeking loud and geeking proud”, there’s no telling where we’re gonna be next. 14 years are behind us, let’s keep the party going!
