2019’s first OtakuFighter, Marvin Madariaga

Martial Arts and Creativity seem to go hand-in-hand.  Through my martial arts journey I’ve met some pretty damn creative, whimsical people.  People that make you sit back and think, “yo wtf did that dude just punch that guy into next Tuesday?”.

Coach Marvin Madariaga is one of those dudes that definitely rides that line of creativity and violence.  Hailing from Hawaii, Marvin clawed his way up through numerous fights, eventually winding up on Lion Fight, Kunlun fight, and other promotions.  You’d never guess it by meeting him though, he’s one of the most light-hearted guys I’ve ever met.  Makes me look like a Gregorian Monk.  And not one of those monks that has a CD where they sing Evanescence.

He’s also an awesome artist himself.  How does that qualify him to be an #otakufighter?  Simple.  He’s about that life, whether it be in the ring, or through his art.  Also he’s a huge comic book nerd, so for his picture I asked him who he wanted to have the powers of.  He thought for a moment and then said, “It’s gotta be Omega Red”.  He paused, then said, “Or maybe……”.

“Nah, it’s Omega Red.  If I was ever a comic character, I’d be Omega Red.”

Fair enough, Marvin.  You’re our first #OtakuFighter of the year.
