Growing up, everyone said that I had a vivid imagination.  That was true.  In fact, some of my earliest memories were escapist fantasies.  My brother and my godbrother would always pretend to be ninjas, training in my backyard as part of the “Black Dragon Clan” (we watched a LOT of BloodSport), constantly honing our jumping and sliding-down-hills skills for hours upon hours on end.  We’d write stories, draw pictures, and do a lot of roleplay with Hot Wheels.  Especially Charlie.

Once I got into my later years of junior high, I spent quite a bit of time being fascinated with Anime.  You already know that, though.  I spent most of my creative talents keeping my crew out of trouble, and yet, I still had time to talk about comic scenarios and DooM with my friends at school.  Those influences would make their way into my creative writing assignments.  (I wrote a short story that involved the UAC, turned it in, and got an A.  I basically just turned one of my DooM adventures into a story :P)

Inspiration came a lot easier back then.  Maybe it was because I was naive, young, and I wasn’t so bound by the constraints of society than I am now.  That’s why I love working with my writing team here at SSB.  They can come up with some hair-brained ideas that I probably wouldn’t be able to come up with on my own.  Hopefully, some of that love will show when our comic finally drops.

Sometimes, inspiration just hits you like a bolt out of the blue.  I was finally able to finish the first draft because an idea hit me when I was driving down the 805 South to get home after a day spent at the Boxing Club.  Thankfully, I was able to keep the idea going until I sat myself down in front of my computer and started typing up the script.

Music definitely helps.  You can listen to whatever the hell you want to listen to, it’s a free country.
