Of course I supported “Mighty No. 9″. Why wouldn’t I?!

For many of us gamers, Mega Man has a special place in our collective hearts.  Some more than others.  Admittedly, I didn’t start playing with the Blue Bomber until the X series.  That shit was the tits.

However, the blue bomber’s been gettin’ the shaft from Capcom as of late, and after his creator Keiji Inafune bounced from Capcom, he formed his own indie studio and made a bunch of games (Hyperdimension Neptunia, a game franchise Ferris refuses to let me buy), and he got a kickstarter going to help resurrect the Blue Bomber in a brand new franchise.

Mighty No. 9 kickstarter

The outpouring of support as soon as the announcement was insane, and Inafune-sensei has already reached his initial goal to get the game off the ground.  Now it’s a matter of whether or not it’ll reach its stretch goals, of a console release.

I found this picture on tumblr, and it’s pretty dope.  With no new Mega Man games on the horizon, it seems that the torch has indeed been passed on to Beck, Mighty No. 9’s titular new character.

I couldn’t be prouder of Inafune-sensei.  Not only is he realizing his dream of resurrecting Mega Man, he’s doing it with the collective geek spirit of everyone around the world.  Fucking briliant.

And before you ask, I contributed to the kickstarter as well.

Anime VS Fashion

*I‘m not the biggest anime fan, some of you might think that’s absurd seeing is how this is a geek blog and my partner @Twitch plasters mostly anime or j/kpop on this here forum. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a huge geek. I just choose to enthrall myself into other things like D&D, fighting games, hip hop, sports, NOT being socially awkward, and fashion.

Looking “anime” isn’t exactly a fashion compliment. Immediately, I think of obnoxious colors and power-dressing, probably in part thanks to the popularization of street wear and people taking pictures of Kogyaru’s like it’s the norm; Try starting a non-ironic fashion blog by taking pictures of girls walking out of a Hot Topic, see how that sticks. Obviously, just as anime is not all lolis, Fashion is not all Jeremy Scotts and in the past few years the relation between the two have accelerated, especially because kids these days are increasingly interested in the two. There was this German graphic Designer who plastered classic manga and popular video game characters in High Fashion logos.

Then There was the good people at Human Aliens, who outfitted DBZ and Naruto Characters in street wear…

ANYWAY there’s another collaboration that’s ongoing, which is much weirder in many respects – certainly creatively.  A few years back, manga artist Hirohiko Araki – a shonen artist who has been drawing one of the longest running manga series, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. He loves to include western references in his writing, including a character named Gucci, which raised some flags at the Italian house. But creative director Frida Giannini took the thing in stride and invited Araki to display his works in the Tokyo flagship store for the brand’s anniversary.
This year, Araki and Gucci are taking the collection a step further, dressing up Gucci stores worldwide with designs by Araki of the Cruise 2013 collection. The image bellow is one you will be able to see over there. It’s a pretty ballsy move, and I salute it.

Crossing Over: Street Fighter X Mega Man

….he must be asleep.  Or he’s at work?  Neggy?  You there?

……

Okay, here goes.

street-fighter-x-mega-man-coming-december-17

Normally, Neggy’s the one to handle anything Capcom related, but I figure I’ll fill in for now.  I have no idea why the fuck I’m awake anyway.

Since two of Capcom’s most popular IP’s are celebrating their 25th anniversaries, Capcom decided to give the little blue bomber a brand new game….featuring the characters of Street Fighter as bosses.  Sounds pretty legit, doesn’t it?
I’ll be honest with you all.  I never got to play very many Mega Man games.  My NES was taken away from me at a relatively early age, and shipped off to the Philippines where my cousins plugged it into a 220v outlet and fried it.  I stated out playing Mega Man X on the SNES, and beating Mega Man X4 and X5 on the PlayStation 1.   I bought Mega Man 2 for my cousins on their Wii, and man…that shit was fun.   So suffice it to say, Mega Man isn’t one of my personal favorite IP’s of Capcom.  Doesn’t mean the IP sucks, by no means, it’s just not one of my favorites.  And I’m glad that they’re doin’ stuff with Mega Man, because I still think he should’ve been in MvC3.

Now Street Fighter….well, that’s a whole other story.  I devoted an entire week to Street Fighter, so I’ll leave that alone.

I am excited for this, and it’s free!  A FREE PC DOWNLOAD FULL MEGA MAN GAME WITH STREET FIGHTER BOSSES.  HOW CAN YOU LOSE?  It’ll be on the capcom-unity website on the 17th.
