Let’s start with the fair…

Unlike last year, I decided to go easy on the fair food. Although I can’t confirm it, the food I ate from the fair last year may have lead to me ending up in the hospital, though the time from the day I went to the fair to the day I was admitted to the hospital was at least 7 days… What did I eat? A lot of fried food… Deep fried ice cream, deep fried frog legs, deep fried butter, red velvet funnel cake, deep fried cereal, bacon wrapped mushrooms that were stuffed with cheese…and even deep fried Kool-Aid… I’m sure there was one or two more, but I can’t remember it off hand…

So far this year, I’ve had only two items. They are the Australian Battered Potatoes and the Deep Fried Cheeseburger.

I do plan on going back again and trying some more food, like the maple bacon doughnut and that turkey leg that’s wrapped in one pound of bacon…

I had a chance to check out the Game On! exhibit that the fair has this year. It showcased games from past and present, whether it was board games or video games. They even had some old school arcade machines set up for people to play…

Microsoft decided to reveal the XBOX One ahead of the E3 conference. Quite frankly, I was really disappointed. DRM, having to connect every 24 hours to continue playing games (making the implication that an internet connection is required), potential privacy issues involving the Kinect device… All around, I thought it was a mess… The following YouTube video pretty much sums it up…

Sony, on the other hand, had a much better showing at the E3 conference with their PS4 reveal. Support for used games, new IPs that are worth looking into, support for indie games, Kingdom Hearts 3, Watch Dogs, GOTY candidate The Last of Us… There was quite a lot to like at Sony’s presentation. There’s nothing like the guys at Sony showing Microsoft how sharing games is really done, as shown in this YouTube video…

That’s all from me for now… My next few entries will entail more about the San Diego County Fair, appendicitis one year later, possibly Anime Expo and definitely Comic-Con (this year is my 10th consecutive year attending)… Stay tuned…

On the last day of high school, I was sitting in religion class, at Marian Catholic High School.  To be honest, the only thing that was going through my mind was SUMMER VACATION AND COLLEGE NOW YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!  I couldn’t wait to be gone.  Leave it to my religion teacher (Miss Lehnert, one of the most religiously open teachers I’ve ever had) to throw a monkey wrench into my plans of freedom, with a song that would change my life, and forever sear those last few moments with my classmates into my brain.

When Miss Lehnert played that song for everyone, she told us all to take one last look around the classroom, because after that moment, we’d all go our separate ways.  As the song played, the guys just sorta scoffed and chilled.  A bunch of the girls cried.  Me?  Shit, I started wondering if I’d live up to the song a few years from then.

Right now, I can look back and say that the song did shape me into the person I am now.  I’ve never been one to shy away from a challenge, and people know that the some of the choices I’ve made have not been the best ones.  But I’m still alive, kicking, breathing, punching, running, and living my life.  And that’s what Miss Lehnert wanted us to do once we got out of high school.  To live our lives to the fullest.  Without regrets.

Sony just had their E3 press conference.  Good games.

• Final Fantasy Versus-XIII became Final Fantasy XV.  Nice.
• Kingdom Hearts III. FINALLY.
• SPORTS GAEMS.
• Assassin’s Creed IV.
• And I’m sure rhythmem#tion.net has a nice write up too.  This is where SSB gets real.

During the press conference, they dropped their bombshell announcement.  Used games work on the PS3.  They aren’t implementing any Draconian DRM always online bullshit like the XBAWKS is.  And seriously, always online?  Shit, not everyone has a nice online connection.  Yeah, Sim City was supposed to be a game that was always online, and look how that turned out.

In the end, Sony proved that it’s got its heart in the right place.  I’ve been a loyal playstation fan since the PS1, and I’m glad that the PS4 will be as awesome as the systems that came before.

But people don’t understand the addiction of the applause, the standing ovation while trading toe to toe, the high fives back to the change room. After winning by knock out your adrenaline is so high your walking on a cloud and you can’t sleep for a week. For that split moment in time your in the magazines, on the tv, people nod at you on the street as a sign of appreciation.

But they also don’t understand the cold shoulder you receive after telling people of a loss, or the “I’m sure you did your best” sympathy comment. You plead your story to friends how it was a close fight, but your friends have already judged you after they hear the word loss. The strange looks you receive in the hospital room waiting to be stitched or X-rayed. With black eyes and a swollen face, people look down at you thinking:

“You are probably not educated enough to hold a real job”.

The highs of the sport are the ultimate rush, yet the lows are painful hospital visits, confidence(spelling?) crushing that you sometimes never recover from. 

I am fight sports, I am more addictive then heroin. Once you try me, you will never forget me. You will always want one more hit for the rest of your life to feel me in your veins.

In the end, people always have their rationale to fight.  It varies from person to person, but in the end, all that matters is that you put your own effort forward and start training.  No excuses.

I can’t believe that the first Fast and the Furious movie came out in 2001. That was so long ago, but here we are now at the 6th movie in the franchise. Fast cars, sexy women, badass men, and thrilling action scenes. I remember when the first movie came out everyone was all into the rice rockets and of course it was all about Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Ok now I’ve seen the movie trailer for Fast and the Furious 6, and is it just me or does Paul Walker look freakishly the same as he did in the first movie? Hot damn! Haha. Maybe it’s just makeup or some sort of video editing but all I know is that he looks eerily pretty good since the first Fast and the Furious.

Now to the article that even brought me to discuss this franchise.

6 Lessons Hollywood Needs to Learn From ‘The Fast & The Furious’

Vin Diesel as A List? Wow!! That actor has come quite a long way being carried into A List by the Fast and the Furious franchise. I guess whatever works. He’s done a great job in his badass role, so the more power to him. And Michelle Rodriguez. Flashbacks to Lost and how annoying her character was in that TV show. Anyway, she is pretty badass in the Fast and the Furious movies and I know if I were guy I would totally think she was “the cat’s meow”.

There’s already talks for a 7th film in the franchise? I look forward to seeing how far they take the storylines. I guess I’ll give the franchise another shot and see what the hoopla is all about. You know there’s always that stigma about sequels. The odds of it being disappointing are quite high, but maybe these movies are the exception (although I hear the Hangover sequels are quite good as well). For your viewing pleasure, the trailer for the Fast and the Furious 6 is below. The glamorization of speeding, fighting, breaking the law, etc. Haha. But it’s all for entertainment. I won’t even get started on the potential psychological impacts this does for our society. Maybe in another blog post. =)

Flatbread Pizza using Pesto!

So, to “fit” into all the fitness posts that Mr. Twitchy has been posting, Let’s supplement this with some healthy recipes. I’m the Health-Freak at SSB. And yes, it’s been quiet a while. Who else do you think they learned the secrets of Young Barley Grass, Matcha, and Ukon from? hehe..well, summer’s around the corner and I’ll be trying to post health related things and such more often. Let’s make this a goal for all…Summer 2013: Geekified Sexiness

This recipe makes about 1 cup of sauce. USE IT FOR EVERYTHING from pasta, bread, salad, couscous, etc.

Nut-Free Kale Basil Pesto:

1/2 cup kale, stems removed
1 cup Basil leaves
4-5 garlic cloves
1/2 to 3/4 cup Olive Oil (or Grapeseed oil)
1/4 cup of Parmesan Cheese
Salt
Pepper
1/4 of Lemon

In a food processor, throw in the kale, basil, garlic, and about 1/4 cup of olive oil. Process. Now keep adding in oil until everything is well blended. Don’t worry if it looks slightly runny, You’ll be adding in the parmesan cheese at the end .

Add a few tablespoons of parmesan cheese, a little salt & pepper, process again for a few seconds. Transfer your Pesto to a container, slowly mix in parmesan cheese until your desired consistency. Now squeeze a bit of lemon over it and mix.

Now you can use it for just about everything

The nice people of the internet, on a certain “anonymous” website, put together a nice little pictoral guide of all the major events of this current story arc.  Man, is it a doozy.

Is it early enough for me to do my obituary on Squaresoft?  Is it?

As someone who enjoys a little style and fashion here and there, I’m going to have to give a thumbs down to this sad attempt by Bakers to revitalize the 90s classic platform sneaker. It was a nice try. A mix between the platform sneaker and the mary janes. I see where they were going with it. I wouldn’t be surprised if I did see some people wear this in public, but I think it would be fairly difficult to match it with the current fashion trends in the stores today. I look forward to seeing these styles on the clearance racks in about a month (or less). Maybe I’ll buy a pair then for a 90s outfit. If I stare at them long enough, they don’t seem as bad. But the longer I stare, the farther back in time I feel. I guess that was the point? To feel nostalgic enough to buy shoes that are no longer really relevant to today’s current fashion trends and that only succeed in making me feel older than I felt before I bought said shoes? First world problems. =P

Since I tend to be up pretty late on weekdays, I decided that I might try a daily blog entry I will call Late Night Snack. This is because I love snacking, I love food, and I love staying up late at night. There’s just something about being awake when everyone else seems to be sleeping that makes me feel so rebellious. I loved doing it as a child, and I still love doing it as an adult. I remember when I was younger I used to pretend I would go to bed when my parents would tuck me in, but I actually had a flashlight and was reading books underneath the covers. I felt so badass. Ya I know. Lame. I was still reading and learning. Some rebel I am. Haha. But even so, here I am still up late at night reading on the computer … on a work night! Woo hoo!

Anyways, so for Mother’s Day this year we went to Café Sevilla. We were trying something different this year than the regular hotel buffets that we normally go to. The food was quite delicious, and they had an Instagram build-your-own cupcake challenge. At first I scoffed at the contest thinking I wouldn’t even be able to compete because I didn’t think I could come up with something creative enough that I thought was worthy enough of the competition. Well, I eventually acquiesced and just created random cupcakes for fun. They were just mini cupcakes so the canvas was quite small, which means the ideas could remain fairly simple.

My first attempt was very simplistic. Just tried to create some sort of pattern with sprinkles. I wasn’t happy with it, so I wanted to make another one. My second attempt was my way of kissing a$$ to the restaurant, thinking that might sway their vote. Can you see the sad ‘S’ I horribly made? Well, in my defense the icing bag had a large opening (that’s … what he … said?…) and so it was quite difficult to mimic the ‘S’ in the restaurant’s name. Definitely wasn’t happy with my literal brown nosing mini cupcake. I was about to wave my white flag and just admit that I sucked at being creative, but my brother and one of my closest friends made a good point that the odds of one of us winning was quite high. We had all checked out the competition on Instagram, and there really weren’t that many entries, so that definitely was a good push that my efforts wouldn’t be so futile. I wanted to give it one last try to see if I could create the winning cupcake, but just one more as I wasn’t about to waste any more food just for my amusement. I came up with something simple, yet put my little twist on it. It’s kinda funny how it just flowed and the creation just came alive on it’s own. I took the blue icing bag and just went around the perimeter of the cupcake. Then I took the pink icing bag and followed suit. Then I grabbed the yellow icing bag and I just saw it as the center of a flower. That is what I went with, just a flower. I didn’t think to use real strawberry leaves until I arrived back at my table and felt that the cupcake felt incomplete. It just felt too blah. Just looked like a carousel of colors. I saw the leftover strawberry on my plate and thought it would look well as leaves for a flower. And then voila! I felt happy with my creation. =)

Well … as it turns out … I won the cupcake challenge!!! … with the last cupcake I made. I couldn’t believe it. The last cupcake I made. One of the simplest designs that I could come up with. But something about that last cupcake just felt right and felt complete. Reminds me of what a good friend keeps telling me … to always listen to myself. He is right. I listened, and good things resulted. =)
