Quote of the day: Rammstein Edition

There’s no doubt in my mind that some languages seem to convey certain emotions rather well. Some languages can even convey a wealth of ideas with the fewest syllables spoken. Some languages have 70 different words for “snow”. Some languages however, can scare the living shit out of people, as shown by E.Kim.

Quote of the day:

“Two people arguing in German is the scariest thing ever.”

I don’t think she’s been to a Rammstein concert yet. She’ll win….something. I haven’t decided on what yet.

From the San Diego County Fair to E3… Quite an interesting week…

Last week or so was quite interesting for me as I had gone to the fair on opening day (6/8/13) and watched Sony’s live broadcast of their press conference at E3.

Let’s start with the fair…

At the fair, waiting to get in…

Unlike last year, I decided to go easy on the fair food. Although I can’t confirm it, the food I ate from the fair last year may have lead to me ending up in the hospital, though the time from the day I went to the fair to the day I was admitted to the hospital was at least 7 days… What did I eat? A lot of fried food… Deep fried ice cream, deep fried frog legs, deep fried butter, red velvet funnel cake, deep fried cereal, bacon wrapped mushrooms that were stuffed with cheese…and even deep fried Kool-Aid… I’m sure there was one or two more, but I can’t remember it off hand…

So far this year, I’ve had only two items. They are the Australian Battered Potatoes and the Deep Fried Cheeseburger.

I do plan on going back again and trying some more food, like the maple bacon doughnut and that turkey leg that’s wrapped in one pound of bacon…

I had a chance to check out the Game On! exhibit that the fair has this year. It showcased games from past and present, whether it was board games or video games. They even had some old school arcade machines set up for people to play…

In about two weeks from now, I’ll be going to the fair again. I’ll have more pictures coming soon…

Microsoft decided to reveal the XBOX One ahead of the E3 conference. Quite frankly, I was really disappointed. DRM, having to connect every 24 hours to continue playing games (making the implication that an internet connection is required), potential privacy issues involving the Kinect device… All around, I thought it was a mess… The following YouTube video pretty much sums it up…

Sony, on the other hand, had a much better showing at the E3 conference with their PS4 reveal. Support for used games, new IPs that are worth looking into, support for indie games, Kingdom Hearts 3, Watch Dogs, GOTY candidate The Last of Us… There was quite a lot to like at Sony’s presentation. There’s nothing like the guys at Sony showing Microsoft how sharing games is really done, as shown in this YouTube video…

That’s all from me for now… My next few entries will entail more about the San Diego County Fair, appendicitis one year later, possibly Anime Expo and definitely Comic-Con (this year is my 10th consecutive year attending)… Stay tuned…

Get Healthy, Geeks. Nut-Free Kale Basil Pesto Recipe

Image

Flatbread Pizza using Pesto!

So, to “fit” into all the fitness posts that Mr. Twitchy has been posting, Let’s supplement this with some healthy recipes. I’m the Health-Freak at SSB. And yes, it’s been quiet a while. Who else do you think they learned the secrets of Young Barley Grass, Matcha, and Ukon from? hehe..well, summer’s around the corner and I’ll be trying to post health related things and such more often. Let’s make this a goal for all…Summer 2013: Geekified Sexiness

This recipe makes about 1 cup of sauce. USE IT FOR EVERYTHING from pasta, bread, salad, couscous, etc.

Image

Nut-Free Kale Basil Pesto:

1/2 cup kale, stems removed
1 cup Basil leaves
4-5 garlic cloves
1/2 to 3/4 cup Olive Oil (or Grapeseed oil)
1/4 cup of Parmesan Cheese
Salt
Pepper
1/4 of Lemon

In a food processor, throw in the kale, basil, garlic, and about 1/4 cup of olive oil. Process. Now keep adding in oil until everything is well blended. Don’t worry if it looks slightly runny, You’ll be adding in the parmesan cheese at the end :).

Add a few tablespoons of parmesan cheese, a little salt & pepper, process again for a few seconds. Transfer your Pesto to a container, slowly mix in parmesan cheese until your desired consistency. Now squeeze a bit of lemon over it and mix.

Now you can use it for just about everything 🙂

Geek or not? The struggle continues.

Char is best IS.

Char is best IS.

Recent events have come to light where I’ve started questioning the fabric of my being.  Am I a geek?  Or not?  Why am I doing SSB?  Is it for the geeks?   Or for everyone else?  Will sacrificing content to reach a wider audience benefit us?

1356326718868

I spent the past week with a bunch of my geek friends and I always come from the meetings with a sense of purpose.  We do what we do because we love to do it.  Like my homies Mark and Ivan, who do films and video editing because they love doin’ all that.  Or Fernando, Keith, and Neil, with Jabronie Pictures, making Tokusatsu youtube movies because they love to do it.  Then our friends at RhythmEmotion.Net, Mylene, Lester, and Abe (RALLY’S ASADA FRIES), who are truly all about that geek life.  They’re awesome.  Darryl and Mike’s cosplay pics are legit and awesome.  I could go on and on…

1368242751440

There’s a sense of love and passion that you get from people that are into the geek life that you just don’t get from people that aren’t into that geek life.  People that are just there to get youtube views, praise from people, a cheesy network deal, etc, those are the people that I can’t stand.  It makes my skin crawl.  They’re not about that geek life.

1354197389835

What does that mean for SSB?  Well, we’re gonna keep doin’ what we’re doing, but we’re not trying to curry praise from people, or trying to get more views (but that wouldn’t hurt), and we’re not trying to cater to the mainstream crowd.  That’s never been our M.O. and it never will be.

1347243252915

Our M.O. is to cover the geek world, and to put our own unique spin on it.  We’ll put our spin through our manga, this website, and any parties/gatherings we hold.  Yes, we are all about that life, and it’s not to the exclusion of anything else.  Just don’t try to align ourselves with us because you’re hoping to get some more views on your channel, or you think you can make some money off of us.  If you’re down to chill and discuss how awesome Star Trek is, or why Charlotte Dunois is the best IS pilot (SHE JUST IS), then by all means, join us.

*Alissa, nice work with the categories 🙂

Goodbye Goldenballs aka Becks aka David Beckham

Image

Farewell, Becks for all your fame and fortune you have always been a true footballer.  I admire him for this reason alone, he turned great talent into a brand. There are numerous amazing athletes out there but very few who have the empire that Becks was able to build. He did it through showing his worth on the pitch, and oh ya marrying the hottest spice girl out there (well done).

Say what you will about him being over hyped and over paid..let us take a quick glimpse at this trophy cabinet..6 Epl titles , 2 Fa cups, 1 Uefa Champions leauge..and that is only with Manchester United. 1 La Liga with Real Madrid, 2 MLS cups with the Galaxy and 1 French title with PSG. That alone shows the man is a born winner.

What really stands out to me is how he went from the most hated man in England due to the 98 world cup to the savior in 2002. He never ran from his critics and chose to prove them all wrong. So I say Thank You also in apart b/c when he left Man United…we got Ronaldo.

SSB’s “Crazy moms of the otaku world!”

It’s Mother’s Day, and since I don’t think we honor our mommies enough, I’m going to dedicate this entire week to moms.  Especially geeks in the anime/manga/videogames that we all love.  I’m going to start with…

Day #1 – Final Fantasy VII’s “JENOVA”

JENOVA.  An alien lifeform that killed off a bunch of native people, attempted to hijack an entire planet, and whose DNA served as the blueprint of one of gaming’s most hated villains.  Her children attempted to complete her work, despite being headless for the events of Final Fantasy VII.

What did Sephy do with her head, anyway?

When you have this dude calling JENOVA “Mother”, you know you’re in for some real shit.

SSB vs. Asian Cultural Festival 2013!

First off, a big shoutout to my team at Kkonnect.net.  Back in the game, baby!

Today was the Asian Cultural Festival, the brainchild of one very awesome Dennis-Michael Broussard.  And like so many of his events, this event was poppin’, creative, and eye-opening.  Don’t believe me?  A few of our team members all split up and covered the event in their own way, either by bringing in musical guests, taking pictures, or doing JoJo poses.

Take a look at these pictures below:

And for those of you that can’t handle the silliness I bring, then I say to you, good day.
